Window film deteriorates with age that is why it needs to be removed. Dreaded purple film and bubbling film are two of the most common symptoms of dying film. The cause of purple film is the non-metallic dyes in the film breaking down and changes in color. One sign that the adhesive used to apply the tint to the window is failing is the appearance of bubbling film.

You will probably end up with a sticky mess on the glass that will take several hours to scrape if you attempt to remove the window simply by peeling.  However, there are many services that offer tint removal. You just need to make sure that they are credible and responsible in their work.

If you are confident enough to do the removal by yourself, then here are 3 tips for you to prevent a sticky mess on the glass after removing the tint in your window.

    Sun and Ammonia

This method requires the sunny day. Consider alternative techniques if you live in an area where it is too cloudy to heat the rear window. On the outside of the window, spray soapy water and cover it with a black trash bag, the next thing you will do is smooth the plastic flat.

It is crucial to use a face mask because ammonia fumes can be fatal and various individuals will respond differently to exposure to the fumes. Trap the ammonia against the window film with another trash bag or plastic wrap constructed of multiple layers of a film while the ammonia is still wet. The garbage bags will absorb heat and help the film peel off in one piece when left under the sun.

Try to peel the film off in one entire piece using your fingernail or razor blade to lift the window film on one side of the window. You must be careful enough as to not cut the defroster lines. Using an ammonia strip, keep the tint moist. Scrape of any tiny tint that did not peel using a razor blade.

Wipe the surface with a paper towel before it will dry and remove any residual adhesive with ammonia and very fine steel wool. Clean the window thoroughly using a glass cleaner and remove the trash bag.

    Steamer

This is a quick way to remove the tint.  You will need to purchase a fabric steamer, even though it can be quite expensive but you will surely save much time. Fill your fabric steamer and steam on a window. The glue will melt and tint will peel off like cellophane after a steaming. Use something such as an adhesive remover to wipe and clean your window once the tint is removed.

    Soap Newspaper and Easy Off

Soapy detergent water must be applied to your window using a household sponge and then cover it with newspaper. Leave it for about an hour and reapply soapy water every 20 minutes so that the moisture keeps on penetrating.

Simply scrape off the top layer of the tint film with long strokes with the use of a razor blade and simply rub the razor blade over the window tint.  Without any effort at all, it will just come off.
